Moving Tech-Baylor game was successful by several measures

 If money grew on sagebrush, Texas Tech would never have to consider moving a home football game out of town.

But money doesn’t grow on sagebrush and competing at the highest level of college sports takes money.

Lots of money.

That’s why we believe Tech Athletic Director Gerald Myers made the right call in moving the Tech-Baylor game to the Metroplex for a number of reasons:

 It brought Tech $1.6 million to support  athletics because this year it was Baylor’s home game and Tech doesn’t get revenue from a road game.

 At this point, it’s only a two-year deal, although we understand why Tech would want to extend it.

 It was a virtual sell-out (70,000 plus) at Cowboys Stadium.

 It pleased thousands of Tech exes and boosters who’ve been asking for a game closer to where they live and work.

 It raised Tech’s profile across the state and nation.

 It can be a great recruiting tool for Tech.

 Despite a sluggish start, the Red Raiders eventually rallied to beat the Bears.

Mr.  Myers makes the distinction between competing in the Big 12 and playing in the Big 12. If you’re going to compete, Tech needs the money because it isn’t a level playing field.
